Susan Swartwout teaches creative writing and publishing at Southeast Missouri State University and is the publisher of SMSU Press as well as Big Muddy: Journal of the Mississippi River Valley, an interdisciplinary magazine. Her two collections of poetry are entitled Freaks and Uncommon Ground.
Nick Nixon: Songwriter.
Nick Nixon has had a successful career in the music industry, including landing a contract with Capitol Records. He spent several decades writing and singing music and doing the thing he loves most, performing.
Dusty Richards: Author and OCW Board Member.
Author of over 60 western novels Dusty will present Writing “101”. Repeated again this year by popular demand this session helps novice and seasoned writers learn about the perils and pitfalls of writing in a changing market.
Max McCoy: Author and OCW Board Member.
Max McCoy is an award-winning novelist, screenwriter, and investigative reporter. McCoy has also won three Spur Awards from the Western Writers of America, the last for his novel, Damnation Road. He teaches journalism at Emporia (Kan.) State University.
W.C. Jameson: Author, Songwriter, Poet and OCW President.
Winner of awards from national and regional associations and is a three-time winner of the coveted Stirrup Award for Best Magazine Article, W.C. Jameson will present a poetry session which is both informative and inspiring.
Johnny D. Boggs: Author, Travel Writer, and OCW Board Member.
Johnny D. Boggs has been praised by Booklist magazine as among the best western writers at work today.

Contest Rules
-- Contest entrants must be
registered for the conference and their entries postmarked by August 27,
2011. Your registration can be sent with your entries, and you must
include your check. Include your e-mail address and we will notify you
when your entries are received, however it is also suggested that you
enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard.
-- Only clear copies of
manuscripts and poems are acceptable. Entries will not be returned.
-- Winners of First Place cash
awards in 2010 may not enter the same contest in 2011, but may enter all
others.
-- You may enter as many of the
contests as you wish, but you may only send in one manuscript for each
contest you enter. If you enter a contest more than one time all entries
for that contest will be disqualified or if you enter the same
manuscript in multiple contests all your entries will be disqualified.
All manuscripts and poems must be original and unpublished at the time
of entry.
-- All submissions, except poetry,
must be double spaced. No identification may appear on the manuscript
except the contest number, contest title and word count. A separate
cover page must accompany each entry. Each cover page must include
title, name, and number of contest, writer‘s name, address, and
telephone number. Judges may not enter the contest they judge but may
enter all others.
-- OCW board members and speakers
may not enter any contests. Members of writers‘ organizations may not
enter a contest sponsored by their group but may enter all others.
-- Contestants found in violation
of any of the above will be disqualified. All decisions are final and
judges‘ names are confidential. Winners will be posted at
http://www.ozarkcreativewriters.org.

conference.
